Learn your critters!
Knowledge is power, that is the saying and it’s absolutely true in all aspects of life especially in the outdoors. Take today for example, as I made my way through the woods on my mower to mow back by the lake I came across a beautiful snake lying next to a tree on my trail. Now a lot of people would have killed this snake and some would have ran away in fear and then there are those of us that take this opportunity to observe this magnificent creature of the forest. It turned out to be a Speckled King Snake , a non venomous snake that lives in forests, swamps and open prairies feeding on venomous snakes, lizards & rodents. Also referred to as the salt and pepper snake because of its black with yellow-white specks. It’s a great idea to carry identification cards when out so instead of being scared and running away or worse killing it , take the time to observe ( from a safe distance) using your phones camera or other camera to zoom in identify it on the ID card and each go your own way. Hope everyone gets out and enjoys the great outdoors and all the creatures that live in it, keep Xploring!!
